Heartburn
Coming soon! In the meantime, please see the Appetizer for IBS.
Note: Most of the over-the-counter antacids are antihistamines. Could most heartburn simply be an “allergic reaction” (immune reaction) to the foods we eat? Why wouldn’t the stomach be the main organ to tell us that we have eaten something wrong?
My heartburn of years duration disappeared the week I eliminated wheat from my diet. It returned when I started eating more dairy, which I quickly dropped when I realized that all of my celiac symptoms were returning because of my dairy (casein) intolerance. But nothing upset my intestinal tract as bad as the soy I started eating to replace the dairy products. Even after 10 years of elimination, soy still gives me heartburn and IBS symptoms. Corn is not nearly as bad but I can feel my energy level drop shortly after eating it…and my colon still complains 24-28 hours later. Our lower intestine does not like food that is not completely digested upstream ( e.g. corn, peanuts).
But the initial warning is often heartburn (acid reflux). This should no longer be a surprise.
